Supporting Access to Innovation

The IEEE IES East Africa Industrial Innovation Summit 2026 travel grant programme supports dedicated students and professionals — both within Kenya and across East Africa — who demonstrate leadership, community involvement, and a passion for industrial innovation.

Grants are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and are strictly open to East African residents. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis — funds are limited, so apply early.

Registration is not required to apply. However, applicants who have already registered for the summit will be given higher priority during review. Awarded grantees will be required to complete registration before receiving support.

What is IEEE IES Hubs & Nodes?

IEEE IES Hubs & Nodes is a global initiative of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society that establishes regional centres of excellence — "Hubs" and "Nodes" — across the world to foster collaboration, capacity building, and industrial innovation in emerging economies. The programme connects local engineering communities with the broader IES global network, providing mentorship, resources, and visibility to engineers and researchers who would otherwise have limited access to international platforms.

Funding the Grants

The travel grant fund — covering transport reimbursements of up to KSH 5,000 for Kenyan residents and up to USD 130 for other East African residents — is made possible entirely through financial support from IEEE IES Hubs & Nodes.

Expanding Access

Hubs & Nodes believes that geography and limited resources should never be barriers to participation in world-class technical events. By sponsoring travel grants, the initiative directly enables students, young professionals, and chapter leaders from across East Africa to attend, present, and network at the summit.

Building a Regional Network

The East Africa summit itself is a direct product of the Hubs & Nodes vision — a locally rooted, globally connected gathering that strengthens the East Africa Hub and its member Nodes across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. Grant recipients become active members of this growing network long after the summit ends.
